I used to have a small art gallery of my own in Spokane, (June 1997 thru Sept 2003) called Out of Our Minds. I showed my own work and frequently hosted another artist during the small Spokane artwalks. It was hard to find these artists. I would get at least one cantidate in per week, telling me that they painted or sculpted, and would like to have a show. However, they had only a few pieces at the time, and when they brought them in, unfinished and not too impressive, I would tell them I expected at least 5 substantial works of art in order to set up a showing. Then I would never see them again. What gives? Why say you are an artist if you do not make art? Is art just mark making? (dripping sarcasim)
Another gripe I have (it is a nasty cold day and I would rather be showing art in the sunny park in Pioneer Square) is with the folks that come up to me at a show and make small talk. Here is how it goes. “Gee you have some nice paintings there” and next….” I have a friend (cousin, nephew, neice, neighbor ect.) who is a really good artist! You should see (his or her) work, you would be impressed!” Whats up with these socially retarded people?? Jesus get some class you dimbulbs!
Think about it this way……….Suppose you are in your dentists chair getting work done…You take advantage of a lull in the proceedure to tell the dentist that you have a friend (cousin, nephew, neice, or neighbor) that is a really GOOD dentist, and perhaps (he or she) should meet him or her. Hmmmmm….I would advise against this line of conversation with anyone who has a drill in their hands.
Am I being too hard on the unwashed? Of course I smile and reply “oh how nice” and look at my fingernails, thinking how much I would like to kick this oaf in the shins, but containing my baser urges.
Where do I go to see PAINTINGS on wordpress? I search ART tags and find almost none. Am I looking in the wrong place? I will post a painting here and suggest you take a look at my website www.art13.com. I have loads and loads of paintings and am working on one here in my home right this very moment. Just changed a little on it between lines of ranting. It is a secret painting right now and wont be up for viewing until next week, so just take a look at this one….Great Balls of Fire…I did last spring. Or look at my earlier blog with the new Seattle one……….gonna go drink hot tea and watch the rain……….

That’s pretty funny. I never go up to gallery owners mostly for that reason. There’s no easy way to get to your point without seeming tactless. I don’t blame them for a small part of it, but yeah, they could try to come about it better. I think most people just don’t know.
As for finding art on wordpress, I think most art people host their wordpress on a website, which seems to cut off their blog from the search engines. I definitely don’t see mine under the tags, which is aggravating.
